Provide the ability to add old country names which no longer exist. For example, a person born in 1910 could be born in Praha, Austria-Hungary, but born in 1920 would be Praha, Czechoslovakia, and another person born in 1990 would be Praha, Czech Republic.
The city of Prague did not move, but the country names and borders did. The same holds true for Yugoslavia, parts of Poland, and many other countries around the world. The existing list of country choices is too "current day" centric.
This is one of the early genealogical lessons a person learns when they "know their grandparents were born in Austria" but cannot find the village/town name within the borders of today's Austria. They may need to look for records in Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, or several other countries, depending upon when their grandparents were born.
I don't think it is possible to create a comprehensive country list. The list would depend upon how far back into history a person has traced their family history. The ability to allow any country name would be a better solution for these situations.
