Improved Navigator

The navigator in the family tree is probably familiar to everybody. We’ve changed it a bit so that you can navigate faster and better in the family tree.

Now the navigator window can be enlarged, simply left click and drag the lower left corner of the navigator with the mouse. By clicking on the profiles which are marked with a green plus sign you jump directly in other partial trees (profiles which hide behind a green arrow). This surely speeds up your tree navigation!

New side menu I/II

We’ve improved the display settings in your family tree. Several changes have been made, today, we’ll start with the basics. The first (and most obvious) change is the fact that from now on, you find the tree settings on the left side of your tree. A click on "settings" opens the side menu. To make the options you can choose from clearer, we’ve replaced the icons by written text. Furthermore, you can now choose exactly what you’d like to see in your family tree window. Don’t want the "Fullscreeen icon"? No problem. Simply uncheck the box and it’s gone. The same applies to navigation features such as the navigator, the zoom or the search box. The usual "Display settings" can still be found in the new settings feature, of course.

The Navigator in your tree

Yes, you’re right. It’s been there already, but some usability tests have shown that it has been too hard to find: The Navigator.

From now on, you will find this extremely helpful tool directly below your tree. You can enter first, last, second or maiden names, possible results will show up as you type. Click on the result you are looking for to move the tree automatically to the profile.

The “Navigator” icon still leads to the little map of your family tree for quick movement within your tree. As usual, a click on the little “x” will make it disappear.

Flash Player 9 – Get it now!

From now on, itsourtree.com supports Adobe Flash Player 9 only. The latest version allows us to print the tree, use the navigator feature and to add cycle relationships to the family tree. Most of you already use it anyway, but for those who cannot enter their tree: Here’s the solution. You need to update your Flash Player to the latest version and don’t worry, it’s easy. Simply click on the image below:

Some users (especially those who still use Internet Explorer 6) may encounter difficulties with the installation. In this case, it will probably help to deinstall the existing Adobe Flash Player before installing the new one. To do so, choose “Adobe Flash Player X” in the Windows control panel under “Software“. Afterwards, you install the latest version.

To check the Flash Player version on your system, please click here.

We recommend the latest version of Mozilla Firefox  i-firefox.jpg or Microsoft Internet Explorer logo_internet_explorer.jpg for a perfect view on your family tree.

New order in your list

From now on, searching for your ancestors is even easier: We’ve added a sort feature to your list of family members that helps you keep your head above water. Now, you can sort your list alphabetically or by degree of relationship.

If you want to know how many profiles you added, click on the little arrow next to “Added by“.

Sort your family list of relatives

This powerful sorting feature is a third opportunity to organize your relatives, apart from the “Navigator” and the search function.

Did you know about the cool navigator feature in your tree? With that, you can search for a relative in your tree and pinpoint him or her at lightspeed!

Simply enter a first or surname in the panel that pops up when you click on the “Navigator” icon in the lower right corner of your tree. The display will jump to the name if it is among your relatives’ names, no matter if the person is currently displayed or hidden behind one of the green arrows.
