itsourtree.com has changed its name to dynastree

New logo dynastree

We proudly present our new name: dynastree. From now on, itsourtree.com will be called dynastree. You can now reach your favourite family tree / genealogy site by typing http://www.dynastree.com in your browser. The new name is easier to keep in mind and underlines the cross-generational aspect of the worldwide network. Of course, the itsourtree.com domain names will be working in the future, so you don’t have to change any bookmarks if you don’t want to.

Where’s the GEDCOM-feature?

As you’ve already noticed, we’ve changed a couple of things in our navigation. So for all those who are looking for the GEDCOM up- and download, here it is:

From now on, the GEDCOM upload icon can be found in the upper right corner, next to the print and fullscreen icon. Please note that this icon is only visible as long as you’re the only person in your tree.

 To download your family tree in GEDCOM format:

  • Open the "Settings" on the left side of your screen.
  • Click on "GEDCOM export >>".
  • Click YES.
  • Choose a folder and file to save your family tree to.

New side menu II/II

family tree navigation

Day two of your guide to the new side menu. Today, you’ll come to know the new "Family Tree Views".

  • The first "Family tree (editing mode)" is what you already know from the past.
  • "Descendants" only shows all of your offsprings, all earlier generations as well as your own generation are not shown in this view mode.
  • "Ancestors" shows your tree the other way round: only you and your own ancestors are displayed.
  • The "Ancestor Circle" has not been changed.
  • The "Hourglass" option is a combination of "Descendants" and "Ancestors" with your own profile in the centre.

New side menu I/II

We’ve improved the display settings in your family tree. Several changes have been made, today, we’ll start with the basics. The first (and most obvious) change is the fact that from now on, you find the tree settings on the left side of your tree. A click on "settings" opens the side menu. To make the options you can choose from clearer, we’ve replaced the icons by written text. Furthermore, you can now choose exactly what you’d like to see in your family tree window. Don’t want the "Fullscreeen icon"? No problem. Simply uncheck the box and it’s gone. The same applies to navigation features such as the navigator, the zoom or the search box. The usual "Display settings" can still be found in the new settings feature, of course.

New forum looks and forum structure

We’ve modified the forum’s look and structure. The structure is now divided in the following 3 categories:

Forum

     * itsourtree.com forum
     * Genealogy forum
     * Archive

In the first category you will find all topics related to our site (questions and suggestions about itsourtree.com). The second category is focused on genealogy. This is where you can find many helpful hints for your own genealogical research (amongst others: heraldry, immigration and emigration). The archives will house all the older messages of the forum. Again, if you’d like us to add other categories or topics, please feel free to submit your proposals!

We hope you enjoy, there’s much to learn from your fellow itsourtree.com users and genealogists!

(*) GEDCOM (acronym: GEnealogical Data COMmunication) is a frequent file format in genealogy (file ending: .ged) to save the persons’ data of a family tree and their family relationships. By means of GEDCOM interfaces, data can be exchanged between genealogy software applications. A GEDCOM file consists of simple text lines where the genealogical information is stored. The latest version is GEDCOM format 6.0 that has been introduced on Dec. 6th, 2002 and since then has been in use without any further changes. To backup your genealogical data and to edit your family tree on your PC, we recommend using our software itsourtree.com Home Edition.

Birth orders…

You’d like to modify the birth order on the site? Unfortunately there have always been problems with the order of birth and therefore we’ve optimized this feature. To sort the brothers/sisters in the correct order, just select the profile of the person in position where she was born. When children are added for the first time, they will be sorted according to the order of integration, namely the child that was added for the first time is the number one and so on.
