Profiles should have haplogroup (by Y-DNA or by mt-DNA) attribute. And search by this attribute. You may also mashup with some existing Y-DNA open database and show possible the same person in your db and theirs (like geni shows the same persons on different people trees), however this feature is more progressive than geni’s

    Please consider:

    1. Improving the profile pages. If someone adds more than just basic information, one has to scroll all the way down to see it. We can’t change which sections go where. Places aren’t clickable. There should be a link to a map for all places/addresses listed. Contact information should be easily visible right away, without having to scroll down.

    2. Add feeds for changes and other activities? We already have feeds to keep track of new members added to a family tree. It’d also be helpful to have feeds for other activities, such as changes in someone’s profile and family tree edits.

    3. An option to see a detailed history of changes to a family tree along with an option to undo changes.

    4. Allow collaboration in the family tree view. This might be a little bit more complicated, but it would be good to know if someone is working on your family tree at the same time, like the collaboration feature some online docs sites have, but for family trees.

    5. This is related to #4: Allowing chat. Maybe using something like meebo for sites (http://www.meebo.com/rooms/developers/) ?

    6. In the tree view, adding an icon to make a skype call (if they’ve added a skype username) next to the icon to send a message.

    7. More options to manage who can see which people in the tree. Maybe an option to be able to “hide” some people from the view of people in a certain group.

    8. Allow us to grant password protected guest-access to our family trees. (Like what flickr has.)

    9. Openid support (for people to login through their openids). Maybe with something such as: https://rpxnow.com/ — That way it’ll be easier for me to nag more family members to join since they can login with their other accounts.
