Some minor updates…

We’ve changed some minor features:

1. Family circle

Now, all profiles can be added to the family circle. In the “settings” under “My family” you check the box to add all persons in your family tree to your family circle.

add-all

This option will not be available in very large family trees, as a family circle of more than 2000 persons won’t make any sense. The maps and the calendar would contain too many entries and loading the tree would take too long.

2. Statistics box

The statistics box is now instantly updated, whenever you chance something in your tree, in very large trees there might be a delay of 5-10 mins till the next update.

3. Family map

We’ve fixed some minor bugs in the maps’ geocoding.

4. Godfathers

Godfathers can now be deleted again. :-)

This is the second post of the series “International Recipes” and this time it’s Portugal’s turn.

Rute (27 from Lisbon/Portugal) sent us the “easiest way to prepare a traditional Flan pudding”. We haven’t tried the recipe ourselves but we advise you all to try this delicious pudding. All who liked or disliked the “Flan” can leave a comment for dynastree and Rute, of course! ;-)

This is how it’s done:

Ingredients:

* 12 yolks
* 6 egg whites
* 450 g of sugar
* 1 tablespoon of butter
* butter to taste

Preparation:

Mix all the ingredients. Put it in the oven , in a greased form.

The Caramel is done the tracidional way: sugar in a pan.

Easy, don’t you think? Enjoy your Flan :-)

World-O-Meters

Today, we’ve got a very interesting link tip for you: World-O-Meters. This page shows various world statistics in real time. Visitors can observe the changes in world population, how many tons of food are produced or the amount of energy consumed worldwide.

The original idea for a project of statistics in real time has been started by a team of experts and researchers who plan to add the largest number of people in statistics or even to create a tool to measure the planet’s “pulse”.
These are todays statistics of the world population:

worldometer

WorldOMeter’s data is collected from various organizations and institutions as well as from statistics from around the world. The meter of statistics in real time is based on algorithms developed by the developers of the project, according to their forecasts on the evolution of different parameters.

Improved Navigator

The navigator in the family tree is probably familiar to everybody. We’ve changed it a bit so that you can navigate faster and better in the family tree.

Now the navigator window can be enlarged, simply left click and drag the lower left corner of the navigator with the mouse. By clicking on the profiles which are marked with a green plus sign you jump directly in other partial trees (profiles which hide behind a green arrow). This surely speeds up your tree navigation!

Faster search…

… and better results! Our developers thought the same and optimized the dynastree search. Now you can either search within the family circle or in the entire tree. The search function searches the persons in the family circle first. If there are no results you can click on “search the entire tree”. To achieve more accurate results and to shorten the search time, initially, only the relevant group of people (your family) is searched.

The search begins automatically when you enter the second letter, if no match is found you will be asked if you want to search the entire tree.

Example:

search2

Barszcz-time!

Another international recipe! Today’s culinary journey goes to Poland: Barszcz. To prepare this soup you need the following ingredients:barszcz

  • 700 grams of ham
  • 3 or 4 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 1 / 2 chopped onion
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Oil
  • 1 white cabbage, sliced or chopped into chunks
  • 3 beetroots, half raw and peeled
  • 150 ml milk
  • 2 spoons of wheat flour

The preparation of the soup Barszcz is:

1. Fry meat with oil, salt, crushed garlic, chopped onion and pepper.

2. Then add hot water and let the meat cook.

3. When the meat is well cooked, add the cabbage and beetroots and cover all with hot water, letting it cook for 20 or 25 minutes.

4. Try the soup to see if it’s salty enough.

5. Once the preparation is done, mix the flour with milk in a separate bowl, and add the mixture to the soup and let it cook five more minutes and that’s it!

We wish you a great meal with your family! And do not forget to share your recipes with us so that users from other countries can enjoy them, too!

What country would you like to travel to?

Today’s poll is about travelling to other dynastree countries. For genealogists, travelling to other countries may include meeting distant relatives or places where ancestored lived: a journey to the past.  So, if you’re already planning this year’s holidays or if it’s still a wish for the future: Where would you like to spend your holidays (maybe for genealogical research)?
